Movies July, 05, 2025

A study of 2,000 adults found that respondents typically go through eight TV channels when choosing a program to watch. Furthermore, they go through nine movie titles before making a final decision. On an average, an adult spends 24 minutes and 24 seconds every week picking on TV series or shows and 25 minutes per week deciding on movies. This makes a total of 55 days in their lifetime determining what to watch on TV and another 57 days deciding on a blockbuster. It was also seen that each month, two households disagree over what channel or film to watch!

Following busy lifestyles, people wanted to make sure that they are viewing the finest of what’s available for them on TV. However, the number of options was overwhelming. This was the main reason they had difficulty in choosing what to watch! They often struggle to decide because there is way too much choice. On further investigation, it was concluded that there were three factors that affected decision making. These included the genre (41 per cent), the actors (37 per cent) and the length of a film (28 per cent) or series (23 per cent).

Instead of getting into trouble to find what to watch, 49 per cent suggested that they prefer watching anything at all. According to 67 percent of those who polled it was concluded that females are more likely than males to make decisions about what to watch on TV. Four out of ten people believed that having titles suggested to them based on what they’ve already viewed will help them make better decisions. A further 31% said that genre-specific lists would be beneficial.

Additionally, 38 per cent said that they would re-watch a show or film if they wanted to feel nostalgic and 29 per cent would do so as a refresher ahead of the next season. Similarly, 25% would like to revisit the content to find out what to expect and 20% would do so to hunt for clues to know the ending.36% respondents admitted that they had to watch something they didn’t really wanted for fear of getting lost! Among the most re-watched TV shows were Fools and Horses, Gavin & Stacey and Game of Thrones.

Many a times it is also seen that mom and dad aren’t interested in watching what the child wishes to! Their likes and dislikes are also to be taken into concentration. Mothers might want to watch romantic shows whereas fathers would like to watch sports! All in all, everyone has a different preference in what they would like to watch. Everyone is a victim of spending loads and loads of time scrolling down the streaming sites. Finalizing a TV show is truly a task for many!
