Citizens Staged A Harry Potter-Themed Protest In Bangkok

Fiction July, 12, 2025

When a group of dedicated citizens decided to raise their voice to build a better country, they came up with a brilliant idea to spread this message. They wanted it to reach where it needs to be.

They held a themed protest in Bangkok and its title spoke a lot about their agenda – “Harry Potter vs. You-Know-He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.”

The brave citizens showed up there dressed up as the characters from the movie. Some were Harry Potter while a few wore a Voldemort costume. Everything seemed to be straight out of Hogwarts during the protest.

The protestors put forward their demand for altering the monarchy. They spoke unhesitatingly about all that they consider is wrong currently.

Saksith Saiyasombut, a reporter tweeted about the protest and the theme that they chose for it. “Bringing Democracy to #Thailand shouldn’t be wizardry,” an organizer told this reporter.

Almost 200 protestors gathered to show that they believe in their ideas about bringing a change in the country. They asked for amendments in the laws and constitution. According to them, the current monarchy is in dire need of a change.

Speaker Arnon Nampa came forward and expressed his views confidently without a hint of fear. He spoke about all these changes and the process that would build what they want.

“Talking about this is not an act to topple the monarchy, but to allow the monarchy to exist in Thai society in the right way and legitimately under a democratic and a constitutional monarchy,” Nampa shared.

In Thailand, defaming the royal family is a punishable offense with prison time of up to 15 years. But that didn’t stop these protestors to spread their beliefs and stand for what they feel is right.

Two student groups revealed their demands and said, “Cancelling and reforming the laws that expand the power of the monarch and that could impinge on democracy where the king is the head of state.”

The deputy government spokeswoman made a statement and said, “The government wants the young protesters to observe the laws so that they can continue to exercise their rights to make their demands and the country can stay peaceful.”

The protestors definitely chose a creative way to make their point and receive the attention of all that would help in bringing about the changes they want.
