Fatally Ill Scientist Weeps Upon Hearing Robot Voice Ahead Of ‘Cyborg Surgery’
A robotics specialist, Devon, has re-installed his stomach so that he is independent enough to eat and use the washroom. His voice box has also been replaced with an artificial one. He wishes various re-installments like an exoskeleton for walking, an animated avatar for conveying facial impressions, etc.
In a documentary called “Peter: The Human Cyborg” which was recorded over two years ago, he explained that he viewed this entire situation as a science experiment. He added, “This is cyborg territory, and I intend to be a human guinea pig to see just how far we can turn science fiction into reality.” Sometimes the thought of losing his original voice would make him emotional and in need of empathy.
MND came to him as a shock. He was living a normal day while he noticed that he wasn’t able to shake his foot. After going through various tests it was concluded that he was diagnosed with MND. His husband Francis was always there to support him and to listen to his robotic voice which was programmed to sing was a very sentimental jiffy for Francis and the entire family.
Discovering about his partner’s disease was initially disturbing for Francis as he couldn’t see Peter’s body wither. While Francis was unsure about dealing with the shock, Peter looked at it optimistically. According to the medical predictions he had only two years to live and should have passed away last year. Reacting to which Peter said, “I want to become the most advanced human cybernetic organism ever created in 13.8 billion years.”
Peter in his expedition to become a cyborg wants to set a positive example for all those who feel imprisoned inside their body due to MND. Peter and Francis overcome every fear they face with a strong mindset towards situations. To live longer Peter is cooperating with artificial intelligence (AI) trailblazers and robotics enthusiasts.
Together they had invented an AI structure that would enable him to utilize his eyes to direct an avatar that talks in his own voice. Using a catheter and colostomy bag and a tube he could now consume easily. He went through an operation to detach his esophagus and trachea, in which his original voice box was removed.
He tweeted, “This is my last post as Peter 1.0. Tomorrow I trade my voice for potentially decades of life as we complete the final medical procedure for my transition to Full Cyborg, the month I was told statistically I would be dead. I’m not dying, I’m transforming. Oh, how I love science.”
Peter took a lot of encouragement from Stephen Hawking whom he was fortunate enough to meet before his death. He expressed, “focus on what you can do, not on what you can’t because if you focus and get frustrated, and grieve too much – because that’s what it feels like, you’re grieving for all the life, all the things you could do – that is psychologically corrosive.”
He wished to help the disabled ones for whom he has created the Scott-Morgan Foundation. He looks forward to new possibilities and never wants to give up.
