Grand Admiral Thrawn Is The Most Irrepressible Survivor Of Star Wars
Between 1984 and 1990, there wasn’t any new Star Wars creation. So children and teenagers being the hardcore fans began demanding. The prequels were almost ten years away, but Lucasfilm presented new stories in the form of novels, comics and video games. This lot was eventually known as the “Expanded Universe”. The first to come up was the novel “Heir to the Empire” by Timothy Zahn. It was with the original trio Luke, Leia and Han. Here is where the Great Admiral Thrawn emerged from the depths of the galaxy.
Being a military genius, he turned the rest of the Imperial Fleet into a real threat to the New Republic. This blue, red-eyed alien on the book cover was quite fascinating! Thrawn was described as a member of Chiss species by the trilogy of Zahn that continued in Dark Force rise and Last Command. Due to his brilliant and tactical mind, he became one of the only non-human characters serving in the Imperial Navy. He appreciated his officers and inspired fidelity. Unlike previous Imperials, he was seen interested in art and culture.
At the end of this famous trilogy, Thrawn died. But that wasn’t the end of his legacy. Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012 completely turned the tables. Expanded Universe became non-canonical and was re-branded as “Legends.” The first was Thrawn’s introduction into animated Star Wars: Rebels in 2016, as the first antagonist in his series. Thrawn not only came to life in animated form at last, but during this time Zahn also returned to creation. He wrote a new trilogy of In-Canon novels: Star Wars: Thrawn, Thrawn: Alliances and Thrawn: Treason.
Many cool characters never made a transition and so were introduced as new characters altogether. Thrawn was the only one who survived virtually. Maybe this is because of his symbolic Star Wars’ long history. He has a special place in his Fans’ hearts. Thrawn didn’t have any connection to any of the original characters of a film. So without any big change in his character, it was easy to lift him into his new canon. Thrawn was finished in continuity with the series finale of Rebelles.
The unknown regions of the galaxy weren’t mapped, so they were very difficult to navigate. But he survived the events of the Rebels Finale! Thanks to the name of Ahsoka, Thrawn, in episode 13 of the Mandalorian. In the old canon of the legends, the regeneration of Thrawn following the Emperor’s death was a kind of warm-up for the eventual return of Palpatine to Dark Horse’s Dark Empire saga.
The stories occurred about a year after the Zahn trilogy, and Palpatine re-emerged in a new clone to once again take over his Empire. He also wanted the unborn child of Leia and Han for its Dark Side energy as a new host. To conclude, it would be great if Thrawn’s introduction to live acts on the printed page, almost 30 years ago, reflected his original conception.
Thrawn’s going to come, people. And the best care was taken of the galaxy!
