Anonymous, a high school female student from Northern Tokyo went missing after she went to meet up with 44-year-old Goto Hiroyasu, an entrepreneur she met on social media.

When they both went back to Goto’s apartment, he took away her phone and tied her to a pipe in the basement. Later when she did not reach home by evening, her parents contacted police who launched a missing person investigation.

One month after the girl went missing, she got her hands on a video game console that was connected with the internet. She then went online and contacted Saitama Police Department’s online emergency help desk, and informed them that she was held captive and could not escape. However, there is no clarity on the fact that whether she used a controller or somehow operated the PS4’s voice commands.

According to Mainichi Shimbun, after the police got the information, they headed straight to Goto’s apartment in Yokohoma, which is just south of Tokyo, where they found the girl tied to an iron pipe with metallic wire ropes.

On being interrogated, Goto stood firm on his ground that he did not abduct the girl. Later, it was revealed that he was involved in many other unsolved crimes before this.

The girl was finally reunited with her family after being separated from them for over a month.

It remains a mystery that how the teen and Goto met initially and why they had planned to meet in the first place. The investigation to solve the mystery is still under process.

On investigating the neighbors, they admitted that they found Goto a scary man. Some of the neighbors even revealed that he was always quiet and had never been seen with any friends or family. Another neighbor told that they had not heard anything coming from the man’s house, “not even a scream.”

There is an alarming concern in Japan after an increasing number of crimes involving minors being targeted on social media in recent years.

According to a Japanese website Resemom, police in the country have reported a 26.8% increase in these kinds of cases from 2014 to 2019.

It is still not known what the girl had to endure during the one month when she was abducted but luckily, she was rescued and safely returned to her family.
