Nasa Is Planning A 10-Mile Astronaut Trek Across The Moon In 2024
Moon has always managed to offer ample space for nurturing fantasy and imagination of the human world. Besides being at the epicenter of the fairy tales, it has often been the object of inspiration for the space lovers. Thus, the world of astronomy has managed to bloom with the moon explorations forming one of its cornerstones. Adding to the glory of the celebrated moon excursions, NASA is back on the screens with its plans for Moon Mission 2024.
NASA’s Artemis mission has become the talk of the space town. The space agency has rocked the sphere with its Moon Mission 2024 plans fueling the curiosity around the world. What’s illuminating the charts is the moonwalk that the astronauts will undertake after landing on the lunar surface. It is 16 times the one that the first men to take on the moon took back in 1969. The moon heroes walked at a speed of 1.4 miles during their moon exploration. According to experts, at that speed, the distance of 10 miles can be covered in seven hours approximately.
However, the heavier suits could have acted as a drag on the speed of astronauts at that time. To ebb the besets of the astronauts in 2024 mission, the agency has come up with Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU), which draws inspiration from the ones that International Space Station and Apollo Space Mission astronauts don. The protection from chilling surroundings is also one of the considerations the designers have to deal with. The absence of gravity there adds to the difficulties of the astronauts to go for a walk around.
Adding to the moonwalk, NASA is also looking forward to explore the icy and cold side of the lunar body. The traces of water are also shimmering on its bucket list. Surprisingly, NASA has not undertaken any moon mission, landing its astronauts on the surface after the 1972 Apollo 17 mission. It has consistently worked on upgrading its astronomic system keeping in mind the progress raging around the world.
Taking on the activities going on at the agency, NASA EVA systems engineer Natalie Mary shared, “This is where we’re going to test out technologies, utilise lessons learned from EMU and obviously Apollo, in order to get to 2024. We do have some things that we are holding off [on] for sustained lunar [exploration]”.
Thus, there are right hopes for the space fanatics to see the dawn of the new truths in space science. Not just that, other formidable space players are also enduring hard to make their mark on the silver space gem. Adding to the winds of amusement are the new facets of the other planetary bodies that are coming before the space scientists. For instance, the famous dwarf planet- Pluto is fueling the idea of an ocean lacing its surface that originated some 4.5billion years ago.
Hence, there seems no end to the space tales and theories that keep on boosting the space souls. The day, when humans will proceed ahead from the Milky Way galaxy to another corner of the ever-growing universe, is approaching at a lightning speed.
