Deen shared that it was a dream come true for him. He added that while many did not take him seriously because of him being younger than most, Team 33 had scouted him through Fornite games and trained and made him learn with them regularly. He said that he couldn’t be happier that day to have become an official member of the team. He lived in California, where Team 33 was also based. He’d been playing Fortnite since he was only 4 years old and had first featured onto Esport Scouts radars around a year and a half ago.

Team 33’s Chief Executive and Co-Founder Tyler Gallangher Told the BBC that one of her scouts got in touch and said that he’d got to know that kid called Joseph was insanely good, so they’d started playing one v one matches as much as they could every day. After a while, her scout said they’ve got to sign this kid. If they don’t, someone else might.

Although, it might sound like Deen was a little young to be a professional gamer, but statistics from esportearnings.com reveal that only two of the top 10 highest earning Fornite players were above 18.

Did that make anyone feel very old?

Deen had his eyes on becoming the next Kyle Giersdorf, who at just 16, had managed to bag the $3 million top prize at the Fortnite World Cup in 2019. Giersdorf, who had used the name Bugha, had signed with esports outfit Sentinels in March 2019 and now had more than a million Twitch followers.

While talking about his inspiration, Deen added that his dream was to be like Bugha and play like him. He’d looked up to him because no one had taken him seriously, until he had won the World Cup. Now he felt the same as no one had taken him seriously until he was signed by Team 33. He is indeed an inspiration for everyone.
