40% Of The Entire World’s Population Are Gamers Now
Earlier gaming was considered a hobby for geeks only. The ones who are geniuses in a certain field tend to be ignored by the common population. To get rid of their loneliness they used to focus on games. Now we are observing that “every one of us” is playing it. Although it is just a figure of speech we are moving towards this direction only.
DFC Intelligence has given us a report on the population who are involved in playing games. As per its report nearly 3.1 billion people are playing one game or another in mid-2020. The world is filled with around 8 billion people which makes to 40% of the entire population dedicated to games.
Among all kinds of games available in the world the number of ones playing mobile games is the most. They account for almost 50% of all the gamers involved in video games. Nonetheless there are hardcore video gamers who don’t consider mobile games as a proper game and the ones who are playing it as gamers.
However the report considers them gamers. The ones who don’t have an opinion in favor of this argument can keep their opinion to themselves as per the report. As any game is called a game be it mobile pc or video games the ones playing it would be considered as gamers only.
It was found in the report that only 8% of those 3.1 billion people playing video games are the owners of proper gaming consoles. They don’t play games on pc and playing games on mobile phones are not even an option for them.
Nonetheless those console players are the ones who are spending the most on playing games. As we all know gaming consoles are among the most expensive things in the world. But as it is said there is no price for the dedication.
1.5 billion out of 3.1 billons are the ones who play pc games. This data includes those gamers who are dedicated enough to play games but lack the money to buy consoles. It is not clear that if this data doubles with the ones playing mobile games and console players.
Among all the continents Asia stands first with its 1.42 billion gamers who pay for games to play them. This is almost half of the population playing games in the entire world. This list is seconded by Europe with 668 million people paying for games. Then comes Latin America on the list with 383 million gamers. Unexpectedly North America lags behind 261 million gamers.
This report should not be a surprise to us. Though social media impersonate playing games as the pastime of lonely people and abnormal children we know for sure that this is a ridiculous theory. Playing is a hobby that can be taken by any. If you have ever played a candy crush to pass your time then you are also a gamer.
