Chernobyl Tourist Found Bag With 200 Times The Radiation Of A CT Scan

Science April, 18, 2025

Neil Ansell the urban explorer took a trip to the Chernobyl site the nuclear site near to Pripyat in Ukraine. He found several things on the site and then he ran a Geiger over it. Due to which he found that the bag contained something which had radiation of more than 200 times than a CT scan machine.

To be exact the bag had contents that had radiation level as high as 2728 millisieverts (mSv) which is almost 200 times than a normal CT scan which hits 15mSv. Normally a single dose of radiation of 5000 mSv can cause half of the people exposed to it die within a month.

Whereas the threshold for relocating the people from the Chernobyl site was just 350 mSv. Neil to this shared his thoughts he shared that he was shocked and stunned how radioactive things can be and are available so easily. The good part about the whole incident was a bag full of so much radioactive material was found and not misused.

Also the group was not exposed to the bag for long as they did not open the bag. They were not exactly sure what was in the bag neither was their travel guide. Neil and his friends did not know what was in the bag and were neither interested in finding out because it would have been dangerous to them only in the long run.

Not dangerous but fatally dangerous for them if they would have been exposed to it for a longer duration. Neil was very emotional as he left Chernobyl as it has become a ghost town after the relocation of people. Earlier it was a very lively town. The tragedy has left the town a ghost town.

What the officials told the public after the explosion of Reactor Four at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is entirely different from what happened there. A was circulated in which only 31 deceased were told whereas the actual number of people who were killed in the explosion were at least a thousand.

The official report of the Soviet Union also released that about 2600 kilometers were left abandoned in the form of an exclusion zone after the explosion. But despite everything the place is still a hit for the tourists is claimed that way by the local guides there. Companies claim that the people who visit the town range from 75000 to 100000 and also depend on the period of the visit.

“The ghost town of Pripyat is not a ghost town at all you have a hard time trying to take a picture where there is no-one there. There are too many tourists.”
