Innovations feed on raging circumstances and sustain on the pearls of creativity. The scientific world, in spate with its bounties, is a representation of that very fact. In present times, innovation is not only reflected in technology but also the whip-smart designs. Gone are the days when techno-giants used to commoditize in the name of advance technology. The shape and size of the appliances also contribute their lot in shaping the demand. The emergence of the importance of design has made a former teacher named Alex Dodson a big name in the world of wood burners.

The thrilling journey started for the technology and design teacher back in 2015. Alex was struggling hard to find stuff that he could represent as a project for his students at the school. While questing for an intriguing element, his eyes landed on an old LPG cylinder. Its shape reminded him of a celebrated figure in animation world. Staring at it for some time, he could find it in line with Star Wars’ baddie- Darth Vader.

Leaving his creative nerves to tune to the amusing idea, he went ahead to carry some welding work on the metallic container. Working hard on the theme, he ended up producing a wood burner donning the face of Darth Vader. Unbeknownst of the pending golden times, the teacher put it on display. Soon, the design managed to touch the corner of the world. It accumulated heaps of praise and applause for the budding wood burner designer.

The light of fame of his design also reached the ‘Burned By Design’. They ended up roping the Yorkshire-resident in their work sphere. Four years hence from the professional break; Alex enjoys the privilege of being the company’s director and lead designer. To invest the best in his projects, he resigned from the post of the teacher. Thus, he stepped forward to embrace the alleys of burners as his professional sphere.

As time ticked away, Alex kept on pouring out iconic designs and accommodated other characters of the animated series. People around the world lost their hearts to the iconic wood burners, fire pits and barbeques. The orders lined up madly to choke the supplies and making the waiting list extend to 32 weeks mark. His sister stepped in to share the burden by managing the customer-care service part.

Taking on the product, Alex shared, “The time taken to make each design varies in the complexity of the design, some can be made in around eight hours, some take over a week and we try and price accordingly”.

Burners have thus broken free from their age-old insipid sphere.
