Guy Created A Buddy System For Online Gamers After A Player Fell Ill

Gaming August, 31, 2025

Jay Britton is based in the United Kingdom and was chatting with fellow Twitch users when something unexpected happened. All the guys were chatting when one player said he was having problems breathing and when silent after it. The person was not responding to any of the users that were online and chatting at that moment. That got everyone’s attention and the users were worried about the guy.

The Twitch community knew they had to something because they knew the user lived alone. Thus they jumped into action after the user was not responding after expressing his breathing problems on the line. They tried looking for his personal information despite only knowing that he lived alone. Every user in the community lived in different countries but jumped into action because they knew something had to be done for the user who was not responding.

Jay shared in an interview how the users helped the guy and said: “We collated the information we had about them: full name; place of work; possible nearby towns they lived in etc. I reached out to one of my contacts who may have been able to help get in touch. I was primed to ring their place of work another community member was going to phone the local embassy but thankfully they got back in touch confirming they’d managed to make a call and help on the way. At that point we got some direct contact details for them and kept talking to them on Discord until they were safely on the way to the hospital and then while they were in ER and again once they got home.”

Because of the whole incident Jay created a buddy system o that if this kind of situation happens again they will be able to help the person faster. Jay shared his views on the buddy system and said: “Another community member mentioned that perhaps we should have a system so I put my thinking cap on for the simplest way to make it work that didn’t involve sharing or storing a lot of personal information in one place.”

The buddy system is safe and no personal information will be shared among all the users of the community. only the buddies will have all the information and thus will be able to help. Jay posted on his Twitter and wrote: “Each person in the community who wants to picks someone else in the community to share some useful contact info with. The only information that gets stored anywhere is who is who’s buddy. If the shit hits the fan hopefully now there is a way of checking in on someone.”

He shared the whole scenario in several tweets and ended by writing “If you think it’d be useful in your online community consider a buddy system. Communities are spread across the world and time zones but they can also be a big part of someone’s life who doesn’t have anyone else. Let’s have their back.” Many agree with his brilliant idea.
