Netflix Almost Had A Different Introduction Sound
All the Netflix users are well aware, familiar and accustomed to the Ta-Dum tune when starting Netflix. But this tune was not the only one that’s ever chosen to be on Netflix. As unveiled by Vice President Todd Yellin that Netflix was about to adopt the noise of a goat bleating.
Yes, this is absolutely true. In the interview conducted by host Dallas Taylor for 20 Thousand Hertz’s podcast, Todd said about this. He said, “I liked the sound of a goat. It was funny, I thought it was quirky and it was our version of [MGM’s] Leo the Lion. And so for a while we were stuck on that goat sound. I thought that would be a good time.”
As reported by Yellin, the tune that was needed was expected to cover all categories of shows on Netflix. The Netflix streaming service was flourishing as an online platform and hence wanted something exclusive. No one can debate upon the exclusiveness of goat bleating. More alternatives comprised bubbles ‘from the depths of the ocean’.
The Vice President made it clear that ‘cinematic’ tune was required rather than an ‘electronic’ tune. He exclaimed, “The thinking was shouldn’t we have a sound that when you hear that, it makes you think, ‘Wow, I’m about to get a treat, I’m about to get an amazing story that’s relevant to me.”
Slowly and gradually, the Ta-Dum tune was finalized to be played on Netflix. It got off extremely well when reactions of some focus groups were taken into consideration. These groups included part –takers who did not know what the tune was for.
The members of the group were of the belief that the Ta-Dum was like a noise that plays former to a movie. They connected words like ‘dramatic’, ’interesting’, ’beginning’, ’good’ and ‘movie’- implies that choosing Ta-Dum was a cakewalk for the Netflix group.
The Vice President –Mr. Todd is elated about the tune and is extremely grateful for not selecting the noise of a goat. The more intriguing fact lies ahead of us! The catalogue of alternatives for numerous tunes was assembled by Oscar winning sound designer Lon Bender. Not only this but also he gave birth to the obscure audio logo.
His depiction was launched in 2015 on streaming service. On this Netflix commented, “Starting today, there’s a new logo animation before our originals. It shows the spectrum of stories, languages, fans and creators that make Netflix beautiful – now on a velvety background to better set the mood. And before you ask: No, the sound isn’t changing.”
Just think about your reaction if you hear a goat bleating every time you turn on Netflix!
