Movies April, 18, 2025

Plans for the new Game of Thrones Studio Tour were announced in 2019 but the project has only just been given the green light by local authorities in 2020. Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has given the go-ahead for the proposals for the attraction which will be located at the Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge.

Fans will be able to fully immerse themselves in the Seven Kingdoms featuring sets props and costumes from the show. Visitors can walk around some of the iconic sets of the show. They include Dragonstone’s Throne Room and Map Room Castle Black’s Mess Room Cersei’s Courtyard in King’s Landing and even Winterfell. The attraction promises a “deeply immersive and sensory experience” and judging by the artists’ impressions which gave a first look inside it could easily live up to the hype.

Guests will be able to walk around the sets and get up close to real props costumes and weapons used throughout the show. There will also be behind-the-scenes secrets revealed including special effects used in the show. The attraction will feature a café made to look like film studios with mobile catering vans offering food and drink.

One highlight feature is the ‘interactive Costume Department station’. Its name suggests one will be able to dress up like their favorite characters for some impressive photo opportunity. Other exciting features will include displays revealing make-up and prosthetic secrets as well as a full armory where you can check out the impressive array of weapons used in the show. It isn’t just costumes and props available to guests; pop up events and screenings are also planned to make use of the space.

According to local media the designs explained that the hub is sized to allow sufficient space for visitors to wait circulate to other spaces and facilities and dining. The space will have seating and café seating to allow flexibility of use for pop-up events exhibitions screenings or other such events. Other elements and functions accessed directly from the hub space will include visitor toilets and baby change a retail space the tour entrance and a ‘grab and go’ style café.

It sounds like the experience could be similar to that of the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London where visitors can wander around the franchise’s sets and learn all about the props and costumes used for the hit films. Besides this attraction there are plans for a prequel currently in process. The 10-episode House of Dragons season set 300 years before the main show will track the dynasty in keeping with the events laid out in George RR Martin’s Fire & Blood novel.

As for now no opening date has been confirmed for the new attraction nor has the attraction given an indication of tickets price. If you can’t quite wait you can always head to Northern Ireland for a Game of Thrones inspired holiday where many of the scenes were filmed.
