Fiction August, 31, 2025

A remodeled version of the Moat Brae House located in Dumfries Scotland is enough to take you back to the roads of Peter Pan. This house is keeping alive the soul of the story and the character created by J.M Barrie.

J.M Barrie’s inspiration for the play came from those gardens and house which still carry a significance for the audience and the people who found solace in that fictional world!

That revamped townhouse is modern in every way but the essence is intact. It is a National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling now which is the first one in Scotland.

Barrie’s emotional attachment to the Moat Brae House is because he spent his teenage years playing around the house. When the story of Peter Pan came into his mind he took inspiration from this place and wrote the play!

When the house was being taken down 10 years ago Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust came forward and secured the house. It is a significant historical building that preserves literature.

National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling welcomes people to experience the literary heritage with the addition of elements that are crucial to the upbringing of a child.

The interior of the building combines various aspects of literature:

The visitors would be able to have a look inside a theater and its components like costumes and props.

That place is complete with the presence of books and hence the library is stacked with amazing books for children.

The guests can witness an attic designed after the Darling children’s nursery.

That’s not all!

The place has everything that inspired the author and the objects which are associated with the memory of J.M Barrie.

The adults can step inside this world with a ticket that will cost $8 and the ticket range for kids is $3.15 to $6.30.

Don’t worry! If you don’t buy a ticket the children’s library is open to all!

We guess that’s enough for you to grab the next opportunity to experience Peter Pan once again!
