Scientists Discover New Material That Could See AI Merge With The Human Brain
The scope and potential of AI in smoothening human lives have always managed to arouse the curious souls looking ahead for a golden future. Many teams and scientists are working on the subject to unveil the shimmering bits of the technology bounties. As a result of the constant efforts the air is in spate with the findings. Contributing to the widening spectrum the researchers at the University of Delaware have illuminated the world.
The researchers have made the breath-taking claim of having found the material that can go a long way in uniting AI with the complex human brains without pushing ahead the drastic repercussions. They have called the magical substance Pedot. They made the ground-breaking revelation at the American Chemical Society Fall 2020 (virtual expo) on 17th August.
According to the researchers the material could navigate the signals between the electronic devices brain and muscles without damaging the tissues.
The researchers were initially working with rigid microelectrodes for the purpose. But the plan did not yield the desired result as the brain is organic. Thus they then started to look around for the material that could facilitate the link between AI and human brains. They checked out for the ‘organic electronic materials’ like ‘conjugated polymers’.
Finally they came across the antistatic coating for electronic displays. Then they went ahead to work on the potentials of Pedot.
Taking on the marvelous discovery Dr David Martin who led the research said “We got the idea for this project because we were trying to interface rigid organic microelectrodes with the brain but brains are made out of organic salty live materials. It wasn’t working well so we thought there must be a better way. We started looking at organic electronic materials like conjugated polymers that were being used in non-biological devices”.
Adding to that he said “We found a chemically stable example that was sold commercially as an antistatic coating for electronic displays”.
As per the researchers the material and successful use can open the way to treat many nervous disorders and conditions. Not just that when put up with dopamine the substance can go a long way in dealing with the problem of addiction around the world.
Well they are not alone in the fray. There are also some big names putting in their might to grab the links and facets of the subject. One of them is the millionaire- Elon Musk. He has spilled out the bits of relief for the ones tussling with the monsters of depression and substance addiction. He has blown off the covers for a neurological device catering to the purpose. However he has not unveiled its details bits of working and extent of efficacy on the ground.
The star has named it Neuralink- a computer chip (a product of Neuralink Corporation of Musk started in 2016).
Answering the query of a Twitter user Musk said “For sure. This is both great and terrifying. Everything we’ve ever sensed or thought has been electrical signals”.
Hearts are pounding for the new normal of AI.
