The Last Of Us Part-2 Director Hits Back At Trolls

Gaming March, 24, 2025

The gamers were eagerly waiting for the second version of the popular videogame ‘the last of us’. The long wait for the action packed video game came to an end in June 2020. However the release caused a chaos by dividing the electronic athletes into two squads. Naughty Dog the developers of the game expected the division to be between the supporters and the haters. But the division between the haters with a valid reason and haters without any justified reason came out of the blue for the developing team.

The first and somewhat justified criticism came from the folks disliking the length storytelling and some other bugs in the game. However there were some people who had not even tried the game even a single time but gave it a rating of 0 out of 10 on the Metacritic website. The latter squad claimed that the story wasn’t how they wanted it to be and they felt as if the developers were promoting some agenda. They even slammed the directors for showing inappropriate romance.

Neil Druckmann the creative director of the game maintained his silence until he couldn’t keep his cool anymore. The self proclaimed gaming critiques were taking their troll game too far and thus the director went direct to address these haters. Neil went as a guest on the former Nintendo bossReggie Fils- Aime’s podcast and expressed his distress for such a rancorous criticism by the audience for fictional characters.

The director said that he felt proud of their creation and had no intention to snatch the freedom of speech from their audience. In fact he found some of the criticism to be healthy. But he couldn’t process a few bitter words that were being circulated against the characters that didn’t even exist in reality. He even spoke about the hatred being showered on the team members for playing a character that was a result of the developer’s imagination.

Druckmann then further talked about the struggle his mind had to go through to process such a large wave of negativity that came in his life. He said that he initially tried to ignore the bitter comments as much as he could but he was blown to see things escalating so quickly. Not only that but Neil also warned the critiques through the podcast that he would be reporting the matter to the authorities if the trolling did not stop.

The actors and the developing team had been trying hard to focus on the positives in their life but the critics knew no limits. Sadly even though some of us might understand the fact that varied people have variant opinions. But the difference between healthy criticism and trolling lies in the mannerisms of expressing one’s point of view. Therefore throwing virtual filth at actors for portraying the character assigned to them cannot be justified. And we hope that the entire ‘the last of us’ team gets some appreciation for their years of hard work.
